PhD student at the Doctoral Program in Buddhist Studies

Responsibilities

An Investigation and Annotated Translation of the Section on "Factors Dissociated from Mind" in the Abhidharmadīpa.

Feng Yang received her M.A. in Religious Studies (Buddhism) from Renmin University of China in 2020 with a thesis focusing on an interpretation and annotated Chinese translation of the section on vitality (jīvitendriya), which is verse 138 in the Abhidharmadīpa.

Her PhD project falls into two major parts. The first part offers an annotated English translation of the section on the factors dissociated from mind (citta-viprayukta-saṃskāra) in the Abhidharmadīpa. In the second part, the thesis will examine the various connotations of the factors dissociated from mind in the early Buddhism and Abhidharma texts such as the Saṅgītiparyāya, the Dharmaskandha, the Vijñānakāya, the Prakaraṇapāda, the Jñānaprasthāna, the Mahāvibhāṣā and the Abhidharmāvatāra. Furthermore, this thesis also contains research on the controversies about the concept of the factors dissociated from mind in the Abhidharma texts.
