Responsibilities
She received her M.A. in Chinese Literature from National Normal Taiwan University. Her PhD thesis is titled “The Mind and Mental Factors According to the Cheng Weishi Lun (成唯識論): An Approach to Buddhist Therapeutic Soteriology”. It was submitted and defended in winter semester 2022/23, and addresses the concept of mind (citta) and its constituents, mental factors (caitasika), in the Chinese Yogācāra tradition, the Faxian school. Focusing on the therapeutic function ("counteraction" (pratipakṣa)) of the wholesome mental factors, Juen Chien further examines the cognitive theory of four aspects in the Cheng Weishi Lun, the leading treatise of the Faxing school, within the framework of soteriology in the Yogācāra tradition.
